Mrs. Barnes - Third Grade
My name is Tammy Barnes. I am so excited to return to my hometown of Janesville and to be teaching at JWP! I am a 1993 graduate of JWP. I attended college at MSU and graduated in 1998 with a BS in Elementary Education. I earned my Master's in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Reading through SMSU in 2008. For the last 17 years, I have lived and taught in Owatonna, MN. I have taught 1st grade, 6th-8th grade, and I have been a Title & Intervention teacher for grades K-5.
I am married to John and we have two sons. Colin and Ian will be attending JWP. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, movies, cooking & singing! I perform for weddings, funerals, and in area choirs & shows including Janesville's own Hee Haw! Another pastime of mine is decorating with "junk". My family and I recently built a new house in Janesville and I love searching for treasures at flea markets & antique stores. Coffee & chocolate are also high on my list of favorites! :)
Third grade is an awesome year! There is so much new to learn and we will be strengthening the skills your child already has. Our main focus will be reading, writing, & math. We will also have several fun science & social studies activities and projects. Third grade is also the year your child will be introduced to cursive handwriting.
Homework will be assigned in third grade. This will consist of daily math assignments & daily independent reading. It is crucial that your child complete the math assignments so they practice the skills that were introduced in the classroom. It is also important that your child read each day. Reading "feeds' the brain!
If ever you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to partnering with you so that this will be an awesome year for your child!
